Building Pathways to Sustainable Employment for Cameroon's Youth
In Cameroon, like many African nations, a critical disconnect exists between education and employment. Youth unemployment rates remain stubbornly high despite increasing educational attainment. Many young people find themselves in a paradoxical situation: educated but unemployable in a market that simultaneously has skills gaps to fill.
Through community consultations and direct engagement with over 500 young people in urban and rural contexts, Repeta identified three key barriers:
- Practical skills gaps not addressed by conventional education
- Limited access to professional networks and opportunity awareness
- Insufficient tools and guidance for self-presentation in competitive job markets
