Citizen in Action

Empowering Youth for Civic Engagement and Community Development

In Cameroon, and across many communities, young people often feel disconnected from civic processes and community decision-making. This disconnect leads to lower civic participation and limited opportunities for youth to contribute to local development.

Through extensive community engagement, Repeta has identified several key civic engagement challenges:

  • Limited understanding of democratic institutions and civic rights among youth
  • Few structured platforms for youth to participate in community decision-making
  • Insufficient skills and resources for young people to lead local initiatives
  • Environmental and social challenges requiring active citizen participation

Our Impact

Since launching “Citizen in Action,” we’ve seen significant growth in youth civic participation and community engagement:

Communities engaged

Being part of the Citizen in Action program changed how I view my role in the community. Before, I didn't think young people could make a difference in local issues. Through the leadership training and with support from Repeta, our youth team successfully advocated for and implemented a public space renovation project in our neighborhood. Now I know that with the right knowledge and tools, we can truly be agents of change.
